Hi, I’m Amelia Avilés, a San Francisco-based performer, multi-media visual artist & sex-positive activist. After years of exploring my artistry through theatrical performance and visual arts, as well as time spent as an actor in Los Angeles, in 2008 I began to focus my work on sharing my artistic, personal and academic exploration of human sexuality and gender identity.
Since beginning the coming out process myself in 2007, first as bisexual and now as pansexual, I’ve realized how important it is for me to help enlighten and empower people about sexual & gender diversity. Two ways I currently do this are through my oral history & photography project Borderspace, as well as my burlesque persona Lexi Lipstick. Other current work includes explorations of postcolonial sexualities of the people of the Caribbean, which includes my resource site QueerCaribbean.com.
At AmeliaAviles.com, you can view my visual and performance art as well as my artist’s blog. For information about my photography services, please visit AmeliaAvilesPhotography.com. For a fun resource, check out my flora photo blog FreeBotanicalPics.com. Additionally, I am excited for the launch of a new site dedicated to my erotic photography work, so check back soon!
