I am Amelia Avilés, a performer and multimedia visual artist. My art is personal. My art is challenging – to me and to the idea that there are things that should not be discussed in polite conversation. My art moves beyond the limits of conventional gender and sexual boundaries. My work allows me and my audiences to explore places that are often taboo and scary.
I am not loyal to any medium, but rather loyal only to that which supports what is authentically in my spirit to explore. My early training includes practice in the mediums of performance (theatre and film), drawing, design, painting and sculpture. Later, I added photography (primarily portraiture) and web building to my areas of practice. My current passions now lie in performing, digital photography, digital video & editing, web building and a general conceptual approach to my artmaking.
